Travelling to the event. A helpful guide.

Portishead SoapBox Race 2018 takes place on Sunday 15th July on Esplanade Road in Portishead.

Here is a quick guide to help you arrive safely and easily at the event this year.

Travelling by car:

- The event will be signposted from all major roads coming in to Portishead. Portishead is junction 19 on the M5. If arriving whilst following SAT NAV, please enter BS20 7HU as your destination. This will bring you to the car park, but please follow event signage when you see it.

The area around the event will be subject to heavy road closures and parking restrictions. This is to ensure that we are able to manage traffic flow effectively. Please follow these signs as other roads you know, may be closed.

Please do not try and park in residential streets around the event as you may be inadvertently blocking someones private access, or potentially blocking the emergency services from getting around.

Car parking will be charged at £5 per car. Once in the car park, you can stay as long as you like. Payment for the car park can be made by either contactless card payment or cash.

Please follow the guidance of the marshals and volunteers when parking your car.

Disabled parking is available at the event site. Please have your blue badge ready for inspection. Blue badge holders will be able to park slightly nearer the event site. Please follow the guidance of the signage and the marshals to get you to these spaces. Please note that blue badge holder spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

For more information on the road closures, please see here.

Travelling by bus:

- Portishead is served by First Bristol bus service. Please visit their website to plan your journey. The nearest bus stop to the event is located at Beach Hill.

Travelling by train or plane:

- Portishead isn't serviced directly by a train station or airport. The nearest are below:

Train - Bristol Temple Meads or Bristol Parkway Station

Plane - Bristol Airport.

If arriving by train or plane, you will need to hire a car, get a taxi or use public transport to get to the event.

Travelling by Taxi:

When ordering a Taxi, please book your destination as Portishead Lake Grounds. The driver will need to follow event signage when near the site. Taxi costs will vary. A couple of local companies are;

2double7: 01275 277 999

Red7's: 01275 777 777

Arriving on foot or by pushbike:

Quite simply the easiest way to arrive at the event is by foot. Please follow event signage that will guide pedestrians to the event in the easiest way possible. Please do not walk down roads that you know as you may find them closed to pedestrians.
